Bentonite Microcol Alpha (1 kg)
Bentonite de Laffort Microcol Alpha (1 kg)
Natural sodium bentonite, microgranulated, with strong protein-depleting power, intended for the stabilization and clarification of musts and wines over a wide pH spectrum.
Suitable for the production of products intended for direct human consumption, within the framework of regulated use in oenology. Compliant with Regulation (EU) 2019/934.
Specifications:
MICROCOL® ALPHA is a highly pure, sheet-like bentonite. In aqueous solution, it forms a gel of varying thickness with negative surface charges, which are responsible for its reactivity with wine proteins across a broad pH range.
Oenological properties:
MICROCOL® ALPHA was specifically selected for:
- Its strong deproteinizing power towards thermosensitive proteins over a wide pH range.
- Load stability over time.
- Its very good settling of lees (significant clarifying power).
- Its ability to preserve aromatic intensity.
- Its contribution to improving the brightness of wines.
Physical characteristics:
- Appearance: granules
- Color: light gray
- SiO₂ (indicative value) (%): ≈ 57
- Al2O₃ (indicative value) (%): ≈ 22
Apparent density:
- Packed (g/cm³): ≈ 1.2
- Uncompacted (g/cm³): ≈ 1.0
Chemical analyses:
- pH (5%): 4,7/10

- Aluminium (g/kg): < 2,5
Usage protocol
Dosage for use:
- 10 to 80 g/hL, depending on the protein instability of the wines – refer to protein stabilization tests.
- In the case of young red wines, the use of MICROCOL® ALPHA allows the elimination of unstable colouring matter (5 to 10 g/hL).
Implementation:
Dissolve MICROCOL® ALPHA in approximately 10 times its weight of water, maintaining vigorous stirring for 2 hours. Allow to hydrate for 12-24 hours. Stir vigorously to obtain a homogeneous mixture before incorporating it into the tank during a homogenization mixing. The use of warm water (50°C) is recommended to optimize rehydration.
An oenodoseur allows for injection into the wine to be treated during pump-over.
Storage recommendation:
- Store above ground in the original unopened packaging at moderate temperature in dry premises not likely to transmit odors.
- Best before end date: 4 years.
- Do not use opened packaging.
Packaging:
- 1 kg bags
